Dharani School of Performing Arts was set up by Smt. Shyamala Surendran in 1987 at cochin  to impart authentic tutelage in Bharatha Natyam, Mohinyattam, Veena recital, Carnatic  music etc and inculcate an interest in our rich art traditions. The spirituality in dance is what made Shyamala Surendran take up dance. This approach to  dance and life it self of Smt. Shyamala Surendran has atracted students from India and  abroad alike. Shyamala is a mother, a friend and a true Guru to her students. Dharani follows the Pandanallur Kalakshetra style of dancing. The school's approach to  teaching dance is based on live instruction and direct experience. The training is  supplemented by regular workshops, lecture demonstrations and dance camps.
